Do I Need to Be Able to Lead a Digital Transformation?

Increasingly, leaders of educational institutions (and organizations in general) are being called on to increase their understanding and facility with technology. Indeed, this is becoming a requirement of many positions in our world today. Nowhere is this more important than at the top of the organization. While this is certainly true of a Fortune 500 company, this is also essential for educational institutions.

A recent HBR article (“Is Your C-Suite Equipped to Lead a Digital Transformation“) noted the importance of both executives and other key leaders to have more than a basic understanding of how technology can be used to transform their organizations.

This article was intended for a for-profit audience but this applies to leaders of theological institutions as well. No longer can we be satisfied with business as usual but must increasingly leverage technology to improve our core operations. Indeed, this is necessary for us to serve all of our constituencies well, especially our students. As we emerge from all things COVID, let us continue to evaluate how the technology initiatives that we may have adopted this past year might continue to help us serve students and others even better for the future.
